Choosing Keeping, known for their Japanese Gansai watercolor palettes based on popular color motifs from different decades, has teamed up with John to create an 18-color palette based on a 1912 watercolor study from John's archive by a boy named Sherman Barnes.
It’s peak foraging season; mushrooms in every shape and size have sprouted in our shops. John’s fondness for fungi appears in jigsaw puzzles, matchboxes, ceramic motifs for Astier de Villatte, and tablecloths and napkins for Summerill and Bishop.

His spider-web silk scarf and Happy Hallowe’en jigsaw puzzle are treats worth sampling. Ino Schaller, a family-owned business since 1894, has been creating holiday-themed objects in Germany; devils, pumpkins, and glittery mushrooms are a few of the designs on offer. Cody Foster’s vintage-inspired papier-mâché buckets are perfect decorative accents, even sweeter when filled with candy. Halloween creeps closer here.

John’s collection of objets d’art and handcrafted items from the past shares space with new handmade marvels: Collaged paper placemats designed by John, papier-mâché pieces from Nancy Lee Carter and Richard Morrison, and exquisite potted paper flowering plants by The Green Vase take something simple and turn it into extraordinary objects. Christopher D. Bassett assembles shells and minerals into vessels and topiaries. Heather Burke’s needle-felted creatures, Trovelore's beaded pieces, and Zara Merrick’s mixed-media embroidered creations are true works of art.

Last fall marked the 30th anniversary of John’s first shop in New York. A few years after starting his one-man decoupage design business in Boston, he moved to New York in the early 1990s. As orders increased, he hired a team of artisans to craft his motifs and opened his first shop in 1995 on 2nd Street in the East Village... a quiet block that would soon become his creative hub.
