Starry skies ahead! No telescope is needed to discover the universe of our celestial decoupage creations. On view are vast constellations, planets, suns, and phases of the moon, all handmade by our New York City studio artisans. Reach for the stars here.
Golden opportunities abound – and silver ones, too – this holiday season. Our shops are stocked with gilded antiques, including 19th-century architectural elements, seating, and mirrors and art in gilded wood frames. French Globes de Mariée marriage cloches from the 1800s feature intricate wedding mementos such as tiaras, veils, and dried and gilded flowers, elegantly displayed under glass domes.
We can’t contain our enthusiasm for John’s collection of special storage ideas. Think outside the box: our shop is stocked with everything from antique baskets to 19th-century leech jars. Antique chests, barrels, cork skeps, pouches and totes offer unique organizational solutions.
Ceramic boxes, lidded bowls, and footed stands from Astier de Villatte hold a special place on our shelves. Inspired by an 18th-century wedding box from their archives, Antoinette Poisson has created papier-mâché versions decorated with hand-printed and hand-painted domino papers.
In the drawer this month: a 19th-century Italian tarot card deck in John’s archive. The deck reflects the Piedmontese tarot tradition, which evolved in Northern Italy during the 18th and 19th centuries.
A quiet taper greets the turning year... welcome the new year with our collection of candles: sets from British Colour Standard, food candles, and more along with holders from Astier de Villatte, and La Soufflerie.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of John’s first shop in New York. A few years after starting his one-man decoupage design business in Boston, he moved to New York in the early 1990s. As orders increased, he hired a team of artisans to craft his motifs and opened his first shop in 1995 on 2nd Street in the East Village... a quiet block that would soon become his creative hub.
