SALTED BLOOMS

John has elegantly captured his love of all things oceanic with his series of seaweed and seashell decoupage....

Henry Bradbury’s muti-volume work, “The Nature-Printed British Seaweeds” popularized the 19th century technique of nature printing: pressing actual seaweed specimens onto soft lead plates to create lifelike and accurate representations in vivid greens and purplish reds. John has interpreted these pressed seaweed illustrations as a series of rectangular trays. At 10”x 13” the tray can be hung on its own or be grouped together as a beautiful arrangement. See them all here.

SHELL GAME

The work of 17th century Italian naturalist Filippo Buonanni is considered to be one of the first dedicated studies of shells. Buonanni’s illustrations adorn more trays but this time, John has cast a wider net to include plates, paperweights, and switch plate covers. Explore the series here.
