This 19th-century oil on canvas portrait painting hails from John Derian's curated collection of vintage art. Richard Buckner (1812–1883) was a distinguished English portrait painter born in London. He honed his artistic skills in Rome, where he developed a refined style influenced by the classical traditions of Italian art. Buckner exhibited his works at the prestigious Royal Academy every year from 1846 to 1877, earning a reputation for his elegant and meticulously detailed portraits. His legacy is preserved in part by two of his works, which are held in the permanent collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, showcasing his contribution to 19th-century British art.
