Sweet hearts: 19th-century ex-voto hearts from Italy, crafted in silver-plated tin and marked with the gilded “GR” monogram for Grazia Ricevuta (“Grace Received”), were traditionally offered in churches as tangible expressions of gratitude for answered prayers. Keys to your heart: before mass production in the 18th and early 19th centuries, keys were hand-forged to fit a single lock, making each one-of-a-kind object a special offering.

Este Ceramiche Porcellane, established in the 1850s in Este, Italy, has a new collection of “Trompe l’Oeil” plates featuring wholly incredible, nearly edible, three-dimensional foods, fruits, and vegetables.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of John’s first shop in New York. A few years after starting his one-man decoupage design business in Boston, he moved to New York in the early 1990s. As orders increased, he hired a team of artisans to craft his motifs and opened his first shop in 1995 on 2nd Street in the East Village... a quiet block that would soon become his creative hub.
